Dr. Chandler met Dexter Mason Ferry and Charles C. Bowen in the 1880s in Detoit. Ferry had been a prominent citizen of Detroit for 30 years, known for his nation-wide seed company.  Ferry was also involved in banking, insurance, railroads, and real estate.  C. C. Bowen was Secretary Treasurer of the Ferry Seed Company.  Ferry Seed Company had revolutionized commercial farming and at-home gardening through the first mail-order seed business.  Ferry and Bowen provided the capital for Dr. Chandler to purchase thousands of acres of land in Arizona.  Ferry, Bowen, and their sons continued to be major investors in Dr. Chandler’s business ventures.
