Corley Haggarton was one of the many Chandler residents who enlisted in the military during the war. Haggarton joined the navy while a junior in high school. He taught sailors to swim in San Diego before learning how to drive LCVP and LCM landing craft. He was deployed to Guam for the remainder of his service, where he supplied ships in the harbor.
When Haggarton returned to Chandler after his enlistment was up, he, like others who had left high school to enlist, went back to school and graduated. In the photo below, Haggarton proudly poses while wearing his cap and gown.
