Noel Addy volunteered to pilot gliders in the Army Air Corps after Pearl Harbor. Addy was sent to England to prepare for the Normandy invasion. On D-Day, he piloted his glider full of machine gunners behind the German lines and crashed into a hedgerow. Addy went into battle with the soldiers and fought his way back to the beaches over the course of three days. Addy later participated in Operation Market Garden and the crossing of the Rhine River in Germany.
For more information on Noel Addy, see his page in the World War II Honor Roll exhibit.
