This lesson uses primary sources from the Gila River Internment Camp located south of Chandler, AZ to examine daily life in the camp including facilities, camp conditions, school, baseball, extracurriculars, and Eleanor Roosevelt's visit. This lesson is part of Chandler Museum's Use Local, Teach National Lesson plan series.
This lesson is aligned with Arizona State Curriculum Standards and Common Core Standards for 11th grade and can also be used in 8th grade classrooms. Teachers can adapt the lesson to meet the needs of their student's learning abilities.
