    The 1972 Chandler High School boys track and field team, coached by Al Howell (CSHOF 2008) won the Arizona 3A State

    1972 CHS Boys Track and Field Team

    Championship.  The team was led by all-around great athletes like Kenny Walker, Will Vanley, and Dave Woods.  The state championship was the school's first in track and field. That year, CHS athletes broke the Long Jump record at 23' 1.5"; and set the record for the 4 x 100 at 42.6 seconds. Kenny Walker set the record for the 100 Yard Dash and Skeet Dixon broke the Mile record for the State.

    Team members were: Robert Ache, David Arambula, Karl Burgeson, Ron Burgett, Steve Carver, Guy Christensen, Arlin Cook, Todd Detjen, Skeet Dixon, Manuel Gonzales (CSHOF 2008), Tim Hall, Bob Hodges, Jeff Hoffman, James Lawrence, Bud Louk, Chris Machen, Genaro Pena, Robert Perez, Preston Thompson, Butch Turpin, Willard Vanley (CSHOF 2008), David Veno, Kenny Walker (CSHOF 2012), David Willis,  and Dave Woods.
